About penny@myt

MYT was started in 1983 by Ginny Graham, and has been building and thriving ever since. We are based at Welshpool High School and run three sessions each Wednesday. Juniors are years 4, 5 and 6. Intermediates are years 7, 8 and 9. Seniors are year 10 up to the age of 21. We are proud to say that many of our students go on to drama college and then into the profession.

Ginny Graham

We are terribly sad to announce that Ginny Graham has passed away.   Ginny set up Montgomeryshire Youth Theatre in 1983 and was not only the founder but also the creative and administrative director until she passed the mantle on to me in 2010. All who passed through her hands as students, and all those who worked with her and knew her, will agree that she was a creative tour de force who had a massive impact on the lives … Continue reading

Hugh Pitt

We are sad to announce that Hugh Pitt will be standing down as Treasurer at this year’s AGM.  Hugh has been a Trustee of MYT since 2010 and his input, support and down to earth common sense attitude have been very much appreciated.  We wish Hugh the very best in the future and hope to see him at future productions.

Junior Group

Now that Ffion and Amy have settled into leading the Junior sessions we decided that it was safe to increase the group numbers (which we had purposely kept low whilst the staff changeover took place).  We held a free taster session on Wednesday 9th September for those currently in school years 4, 5 and 6 to come along and find out what we get up to.  The result is that the group has now increased from 8 to 18 in number, and currently … Continue reading

The Insect Play

The major production of 2016 will be The Insect Play by The Brothers Capek.  It will be held at Theatr Clera, Welshpool High School on Easter Saturday, 26th March at 7pm, and more details will be published nearer the time.  All of the seniors and some of the intermediates will be taking part and we will let you know when tickets become available. The story tells of a tramp who falls asleep in the woods and dreams of observing a range of insects that stand … Continue reading

Murder Mystery 2015

This year’s murder mystery was held on 25th July at Guilsfield Community Centre and served both as a fundraiser and a fun filled week for those dedicated members who took part and gave up so much of their time and experience to make it a success. The play was entitled ‘He’s Behind You’ and told of a group of amateur dramatic enthusiasts who were rehearsing for their annual pantomime.  As always the turnout was phenomenal and the feedback excellent, and once … Continue reading

Major Production 2015

This year’s major production was a devised piece entitled “After Happily Ever After”, and was held in the Assembly Rooms at Welshpool Town Hall on Saturday 11th April. We decided to try out a form of theatre known as ‘immersive theatre’ where the audience becomes a part of the action. The play dealt with well known characters from fairy tales and nursery rhymes, showing us what happens behind the scenes of these stories, and included a fearsome Queen of Hearts … Continue reading

The Wooing Play

What a fantastic week we had at The Workhouse in Llanfyllin rehearsing for our mummer’s play. All the hard work paid off and we had a very full house, a fabulous hog roast supplied by Rikki Lloyd and alot of fun!

The Junior and Intermediate groups of MYT are invited to take part in this year’s Play in a Weekend event on the weekend of 15th and 16th February. The event is also open to non-members who would like a taste of what we do. Over the two days the group will devise a thirty minute play on a topic of their own choosing, and this will be performed to an invited audience of friends and family on the Sunday. It … Continue reading
