Those of you who are involved with MYT will know that for almost twelve months were were trying to find funding to buy the old Welshpool Social Club building (the Workies) so that we could have a base of our own from which to work.
Our first attempt at a bid for lottery funding failed, but we were encouraged to try again. Whilst this process was ongoing, we discovered that the building would be going for auction at the end of April 2017, which meant that we had no time to apply for lottery funding and needed to think of alternative ways to fund the purchase.
We were approached by two local business people who were prepared to buy the building on our behalf, which was terribly exciting, but after they had paid out £550 for a full structural survey to be carried out, it became obvious that we would not be able to afford to reinstate the building to a level of safety that would be suitable for use by the community. Many thanks are due to those very generous souls who were so keen to help us out, you know who you are!
Meanwhile, many thanks to those of you who so generously donated to our crowdfunding appeal on Facebook. We raised nearly £500, from which we donated to the cost of the structural survey, and which enables us to pay another year of rent to stay at WHS.
Needless to say, the search for a suitable building goes on, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you know of anywhere that would like a respectable, reliable, creative tenant!!
