MYT is currently in its thirtieth year of operation, and we are still going strong, despite some severe financial cutbacks. We currently run three groups on a Wednesday evening. Juniors are school years 5 and 6, and they are taught by Lucy French-Rogers who is a drama teacher at Welshpool High School. They meet from 5pm until 6.30pm and sometimes have the opportunity to go in to the Intermediates sessions to see what is going on and get to know … Continue reading
Next year’s major production will be Sheridan’s ‘The School for Scandal’. We have already begun rehearsals and will be performing on Easter weekend 2014 (that’s Friday 18th and Saturday 19th April to those of you who don’t have a 2014 diary yet). The performances will take place at Theatr Clera, Welshpool, and we’ll keep you up to date with times/tickets/admission prices etc nearer the time.
This year’s AGM will be held at The Westwood Hotel, Welshpool on Monday, 4th November at 7pm. All are welcome. The meeting takes less than an hour and is an important part of the running of MYT. If you are a member or interested in becoming a member, please come along next Monday to see what goes on!
Thanks to all those who have intervened on our behalf, and on behalf of similar institutions in Powys. We are now in a less critical position with regard to funding with our funding being reduced by only 10% instead of the anticipated 75%. Whilst we appreciate that PCC have enormous demands on their resources we are very pleased that they are still able to back us and enable us to continue our good work!
The Junior and Intermediate groups performed a devised piece based on One Thousand and One Nights to large audiences on 13th and 14th July. Devised by the group and scripted by Penny and Lucy, the groups had great fun with their characterisations and costumes. Thanks must go to Annie Jessop who had to stand in at the last minute when Andrew Davies felt too unwell to take his part of Schariar. Annie unhesitatingly stepped up to the plate with less … Continue reading
The AGM of 2012 was held at Theatr Clera, Welshpool High School, on Wednesday 7th November. Angela Corbett joined the team as the new Trustee, following the retirement of Jacqueline Langston, to whom thanks for her years of service were given. Following the formal business of the AGM there was a raffle and presentation by Jo Munton of Vagabondi Puppets. She had been working with the intermediate group as part of Tier One of the PCC Skills for Creative Futures … Continue reading
On Easter weekend, 29th and 30th March 2013, the senior group will be performing their new devised production “Cirque du Soir”. This non-verbal piece was inspired by the book Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and is developing into a wonderful piece of physical theatre, with some fabulous pieces of music interspersed. Our workshop with Jules Tipton started us on our way, and introduced us to Carnival of Lost Souls by Nox Arcana, spooky and ethereal at the same time. This piece … Continue reading
Welshpool Town Council have invited us to perform street theatre during their street festival in Welshpool town centre on Saturday 30th June. We haven’t decided yet what we will do, but you can be sure that it will be hard to miss us even in the largest of crowds – watch this space!
Five of the senior members took their spaceship up to Powis Castle on June 4th and became aliens for the day! Chloe Collins, Elliot Lloyd, Meg Over, Nicole Evans and Tess Over mingled with the crowd as part of their street theatre performance, and ended up with a giggling group of children shadowing their every move, as you can see from the pictures! Thank you to Welshpool Town Council and Alison Dyer at the Castle for inviting us to be … Continue reading
