Welshpool Street Festival

Welshpool Town Council have invited us to perform street theatre during their street festival in Welshpool town centre on Saturday 30th June.  We haven’t decided yet what we will do, but you can be sure that it will be hard to miss us even in the largest of crowds – watch this space!

Jubilee Street Theatre at Powis Castle

Arabian Nights

The Junior and Intermediate groups will be performing a devised version of Tales from the Arabian Nights this July.  It is four years since the younger groups had the opportunity to be involved in a major production, and they are throwing themselves into it wholeheartedly! Happy New Year to you all.  At MYT we are looking ahead to the new and exciting programme of events and productions. January 28th brings Keith and Ed back to Welshpool to lead two stage combat workshops – one unarmed which will include hair pulling, face slapping and stomach punching!  The other, for those aged 16 and over, will be an armed workshop and will focus on specific weaponry. Midsummer Night's Dream

Eleven members of the senior group performed their take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the woodland at Powis Castle on 3rd and 4th September. It was titled ‘A Dream in the Wild Wood’ and took place as the summer project performance, rehearsed intensively over a period of ten days, and performed to an audience total in excess of 300. Royal Wedding Workshop

We have been invited by Welshpool Town Council, in conjunction with the National Trust, to provide a one hour workshop at Powis Castle on April 29th. We will be a small part of a huge celebration up at the castle, which includes all sorts of activities and events – all free of charge. Sponsored Improvisation

On Monday 18th April we held our 12 hour sponsored improvisation fundraising event at the Corn Exchange, Welshpool Town Hall. Nineteen members of MYT attended from both senior and intermediate groups, and my thanks go out to them all for their enthusiasm and dedication. Their efforts will help to keep the cost of weekly sessions to a minimum, as well as enabling us to subsidise various projects and events. Street Theatre

On Saturday 12th February Montgomeryshire Youth Theatre performed some of the scenes from their upcoming production of Constable Jones’ Journal as street theatre. Constable Jones’ Journal is a play that has been devised and written by the Senior group of MYT, and tells broadly of local attitudes when The Montgomeryshire Constabulary was established in 1841.
